Why You Should Consider Winter Thermography

Because while we all know time is money… so is unnecessary heat loss!

Both business owners and homeowners could be wasting large amounts of money by not making sure their property or premises is protected against cold air sneaks, damp, moisture and/or drafts. The most effective and common way to do this is through the use of a thermal building survey for sale work being completed, preferably before those cold winter months start to really creep in and your utility bills start to rocket.

Have you considered getting a survey carried out?

When was the last time you got your house or building checked out?

Here are some of the ways that Winter Weather Thermography could benefit you this season and next.

Homeowner?

Ideally, you want to be looking to ensure your house will be taking care of you and your money for years to have. It is always worth investing in a thermography survey as soon as you move in. Although there are many expenses when you first move into a new home, you ideally want to be saving yourself time and money in the long term.

Things such as cold air sneaks can lead to excessive heating bills and also overuse of your boiler or heater in order to compensate for the heat lost in your home. If you are looking to take care and look out for an older relative, one thing you can do for the piece of mind is making sure that their home is safe for them to live happily and healthily. As damp and drafts in the home can often hit the older generation and their immune system a lot easier and quicker in comparison to the younger generation, leading them to be more prone and susceptible to illness and sickness.

Business Owner?

If you could save 5% of your spendings across the year, how much better would your business perform? What about 10%? Many business owners are often shocked at how much money they could be saving after resolving drafts, gaps and damp in their business premises thanks to the technology of the thermal camera being able to detect and pick up areas where the problems are occurring.

After getting a thermal camera and taking the required actions on your premises. What could you spend those savings on which would benefit your business in the short and long-term?

If you are a business owner, thinking in the long term is crucial for its success. Therefore if you haven’t already, make sure that you are having your business premises inspected at least every 5 years. If you rent or lease your business premises, you can use your survey and data gathered from your thermal camera to negotiate with the landlord, or otherwise, you can go through your building insurance. Either way, a thermal camera will be needed so that you have all the evidence you need. Though with this in mind, there are things that you can do actively to reduce the risk of mould or damp such as keeping windows open for short durations of time.

If you think there could be an underlying issue, our biggest piece of advice is; don’t try and ‘guess’ the problem, get a thermal camera that can TELL you the problem and provide you with clear evidence.

Often people attempt to ‘guess’ where heat is escaping in a room or premise, or ‘guess’ where the damp and moisture has originated, in a bid to save time or money. However what can happen is that people either end up doing a patch job, which only deals with the problem on a surface level or end up making the problem even harder to fix later down the line!

Not only can thermal cameras detect the source of the problem, but show you actually where the root cause is. Things such as damp and moisture can spread and disperse, and although to the human eye it might be clear where this ‘root problem’ is, sometimes this is not the case, which is why thermal cameras are so important when dealing with problems relating to damp and moisture.

Want to be ultra-savvy and ahead?

Get your thermography work done during the late end of summer. Why? Because during the summer - especially if it has been a particularly dry summer - doors, windows and floorboards to name a few can crack due to excessive dryness, leaving you potentially open to more draft and coldness once the autumn and winter months start to creep in.
